Crazy Busy With New 2010 Collections

Do you ever find yourself so busy that you’re not sure that you even blink? That would be me over the past few months. But, it’s all for a good cause. At least, it is if you love what you do for a living… and I certainly do.

I’ve been working on designs for two new green couture jewelry collections that mix elegance and drama with a touch of fantasy. They’re mythical, ethereal and enticing designs that tell a story. And, they’re sure to turn heads! Both of the new 2010 collections feature mixed media designs with fine and sterling silver, bronze, copper, hand carved gemstones, glass and enamel, polymer clay, as well as natural and found materials.

New designs are also coming for two of my existing collections launched in 2009, Earthly Desires, a collection featuring earth-inspired designs, and Ethereal Sands, my bridal collection.

Jewelry collections - launch date versus seasonal designs.

A trip to the local lapidary shop is in order. I’ve been working up dramatic drawings for some hand-carved gemstone pendants. I’m currently working on new designs for the Earthly Desires and will be incorporating more hand-carved focal pieces into the collection. I’m also working up the concept for my spring/summer 2010 (launch) collection, which will merge watercolor hues, silver and bronze with fantasy and mythology. A second collection is possible for mid-summer as well.

The exciting thing about designing collections as a jewelry designer is that collections don’t really expire seasonally the way that traditional garments do. I may introduce a collection for one season, but the designs can be worn all year, season after season. A great piece of jewelry is more of a long term investment than a dress or blouse. A jewelry collection “season” is more of a launch (start-up) for the collection, versus a set of designs that will quickly becomes outdated. As a result, I can continue to add new pieces to an existing line for many months after it’s launched. Oh, the joys of jewelry!
